Jewish Caucus Monthly Meeting

Sunday, Feb 25 2:30-4:00 PM

The Bricks

1327 E 7th Ave
Tampa, Fl 33605

Our guest speaker this month is Jim Junecko, the president of the West Central Florida AFL-CIO, and the union representative for the International Union of Operating Engineers local 487 in Tampa. Unions are under attack in Florida, and it’s important that we all understand the issues.

This meeting will be held at The Bricks in Ybor City. Come early (2:30) to shmooze and get something to eat or drink.
The meeting starts at 3 PM and lasts about an hour. (Try to avoid parking in the big lots - they are expensive. There's lots of street parking nearby or you can use the garages.)

We'll also share the meeting via zoom. You'll get the link after you RSVP.

Florida Jewish Caucus Newsletters

Hello, Jewish Caucus,

It’s go time! 2024 is here, and we are in for a big year for sure. The national elections are certainly important, but what happens here, locally, is equally important. Our daily lives are impacted directly by who runs the county and regional offices. Immigration patterns are working against us, and a disproportionate number of arrivals here in Florida are Rs (who else would be attracted to the Freedumb policies of this state?). The good news is that there are also lots of unaffiliated voters…

This is your chance to decide how you’ll answer the future question, “What did you do in 2024 to make sure Democracy continued in America?”

This year, our caucus plans to continue monthly meetings with interesting speakers and opportunities to network with fellow Democrats. But, as the year progresses, we will focus more on the elections. We’ll make sure you know how you can get involved, and we will try to use meeting times for get-out-the-vote activities. Also new in 2024, our meetings will be held at The Bricks. The Bricks is a cool restaurant/bar in Ybor city that gives us a private room and the option for a variety of foods and drinks on site. The address is 1327 E 7th Ave.Parking is ample, although most spaces require payment. Download the ParkMobile app to make it easy.Let us know if you need help with the app or with arranging a carpool.

Here is the calendar for 2024.

More details will be filled in as we move into the year.

January 28 – Speakers are Lisa McLean (a well-known criminal defense lawyer, and a candidate for Public Defender. She will share her views on criminal justice and needed reforms in the County, as well as tell us about her campaign) and Sylvie Feinsmith (Director of Hillels of the Suncoast, along with some USF students, talking about antisemitism on local university campuses)

February 25Jim Junecko IUOE, President of the West Central Labor Council, will speak on labor issues. The Democratic Party is the party of labor, and unions are among our greatest sources of financial assistance and campaign workers. Unions are under attack in Florida, and that means working people are under attack!

March 24Sean Shaw, a former member of the Florida House of Representatives, and former candidate for Attorney General. One of these days, he's going to run for something again, and we will be eager to hear what he has to say on many issues, especially the homeowners insurance crisis, a subject on which Sean is especially well-informed.

April 28 Rabbi Carla Freeman will lead us in a celebration of Passover, integrating the lessons from Exodus and today’s political environment.
